Tube Rolling Fun

Description}: Recently rolled some NOS tubes for my amp: 1950s Mullard GZ37 rectifier 1940s Canadian Westinghouse 6K7G driver tubes The Shuguang 300BC graphite output tubes sound amazingly good, with good detail and tight bass...they'll stay put for the time being (until my limited budget will allow me to replace them).

Description}: As much as I like my horns, the Cornwalls have always sounded harsh (even with SET amplification) due to the very small room these huge loudspeakers were forced to speak in. Knowing what the Cornwalls are capable of doing in a much larger room, I decided to put them in protective storage until such time as I can relocate my entire system to my formal livingroom. Until then, I purchased the smaller 93dB efficient Athena Technologies Audition Series AS-F2 towers, which sound alot smoother due to their high-powered 1" Teteron dome tweeters. I still miss the liveliness of the Klipsch, but for now in this particular room, the F2s fulfill my needs, even with my 300B amp's lowly 8 WPC! As a side note, I had to rip out the carpet after Hurricane Jeanne flooded my room, waterlogging the bottom to both my computer desk and the '70s Danish solid walnut cadenza my audio gear resided in. The concrete floor isn't pretty, but the room's definately livelier...The Haropa 13SVG steel and glass AV rack is a nicer alternative to the cadenza I think.

Description}: Specs: New SRPP linestage preamp, utilizing an 80W Ei power supply transformer, dual NOS M.B.L.E. 2HYS chokes, dual NOS MEPCO/Electra 250uF electrolytic capacitors, along with point-to-point wiring, paper-in-oil AC coupling capacitors, 1% red metal-film resistors, and a 23-step attenuator with 1/4W (1%) resistors. One pair output, three pair input RCA jacks. Power AC cord is a heavy-duty 3' SignalCable MagicPower. Four solid brass Dayton Audio isolation cones. Frequency response: 20Hz-100kHz. S/N ratio: 96dB. Output voltage: 2.0V RMS (max 25.0V RMS). Tube compliment: Matched pair NOS '50s RCA 6SN7GTB blackplate SRPP amplifier tubes. NOS 1958 RCA OC3 ST-shaped regulator tube. NOS 1967 RCA OD3 ST-shaped regulator tube. NIB '50s Mullard GZ30 (5Z4GT) rectifier tube. (I'm content with the tube rolling thus far with this unit; the RCA 6SN7GTB blackplates are considered one of the best of this type, so too is the Mullard rectifier. The NOS gas-regulators are fine examples of RCA craftsmanship, emitting a pinkish-purple glow!)

Description}: Handbuilt by Edmund Lam of Hong Kong (see eBay user ID: zagger1 for his other tube auctions), the T3B is now a discontinued model, succeeded by the newly designed T3B-3. Specs: Class-A, zero negative feedback stereo power amp, utilizing a pair of heavy duty single-ended Ei output transformers made with Z10/0.35mm thick high grade silicon/steel plates and wound with 4N oxygen-free copper wire, along with a heavy duty Ei power supply transformer, filter choke, 1% red metal film resistors, paper-in-oil AC coupling capacitors, and point-to-point wiring, Power AC cord is a heavy-duty 3' SignalCable MagicPower. Four solid brass Dayton Audio isolation cones. Power output: 8WPC x 2 @ 8 & 4 ohms (pure class-A). Frequency response: 20Hz-30kHz. S/N ratio: 90dB. Total harmonic distortion: 1% @ 10W/1kHz. Input impedance: 500k ohms. Input sensitivity: 0.5-1V RMS. Tube compliment: Matched pair new 2004 Shuguang 300BC graphite anode power output tubes. NOS '40s Delco (RCA) 6J7GT driver tubes. NOS 1951 Sylvania 5U4G rectifier tube. (More tube rolling in the near future.)

Description}: My new Model T3B Class-A 300B SET stereo power amp and Model Q4B 6SN7-based SRPP linestage preamp. Tube rolling is still in the works, but I seem to prefer the NOS '40s and '50s vintage tubes from the new stock Chinese/Russian tubes that came with both units.

Description}: My classic Klipsch Cornwall horn-loaded loudspeakers sound their best with the power of single-ended 300B output tubes from my new BEZ Model T3B stereo amp, controlled by my BEZ Model Q4B SRPP linestage preamp. Pure musical nirvana to my ears! At the time this picture was taken, my only source was an AMC CD8b 24/96 CD player.
