Description}: Replaced the Rotel RB-1080. Soundstaging grew larger, more discrete. Bass took a significant step up in both slam and control. Studio 60 seems bass challenged with smaller amps. Now there are many flavors of bass to hear, not just the flabby boom sound. For the record, that is L. Ron Hubbard's Battlefield Earth finding new life as a cable elevator. Good read, though.

Description}: Update: Audiosource Amp3 is on the floor, system has been rotated 180 degrees, Nordost Superflatline biwire added, as well as Rotel RB-1080 power amp. DIY Bass traps in the back. Needs some aesthetic work, but does the job. Heavy drapes only opened for picture taking. Nicely damps the windows.

Speaker cable is Nordost Super Flatline Biwire. However compromised the room setup may be, music in here is still lovelier than in the living room.

Description}: arcam cd62t out to Rotel rc 1070 pre out to audiosource Amp 3 out to Paradigm Studio 60. two channel is still my love. the rotel and audiosource combo replaced an NAD C320 Bee that was a great little integrated, but going to separates with a bit more powerful amp has added a certain sense of ease and control, as well as a deeper perception of depth to the soundstage. Also it affords the hopeless tweaker more options to fiddle. And those spikes on the Arcam are Audio Selections points from music direct, about 20 bucks for set of four, they look ab-fab, have a surprising heft to them, and maybe focused low-level detail a hair, but who knows. My move to a smaller, more rectangular living room, no cathedral cielings, and a closer nearfield position had far more effect on the music than any component switch i've made thus far. Fooey. But it sounds even better now.

Description}: Sony dvp-nc555es out to Marantz sr7200 and Pioneer sd-533 hd5. All paradigm speakers and sub. The 555 has a nice organic quality to its picture, very tweakable in setup menu. its fed to the pioneer by audioquest y-1q1 component cable. tried denon dvd-2800 mk.2, pioneer dv-47a, panasonic rp-91k. This has a nice blend of all those players great qualities. i've found in my travels that in this mid-fi range, very little separates the very good players, at least to an amateur like me.
