Description}: I have 2 racks in my A/V-Home Networking closet, with one exposed to the cinema room and the other only visible from the inside. The gear that accepts media, requires an IR signal, or just looks cool is in the rack that is visible, and the CD changers, routers, servers, and hard drives are in the closet.

Description}: I have a ceiling mounted projector, Mitsubishi XD300U, that will give me a good display in almost any lighting condition up to 12' diagonal, but I find that 10' is adequate for my needs. Besides, I would need a higher ceiling if I went too much larger.

Remote Control

Description}: Well, I finally found a remote that does almost everything, and is the best on the market so far. The Philips Pronto TSU9600 controls my Lutron Lighting, Escient Fireball, Microsoft XP Media Center, and every component in my system. It uses IR, RF, and WiFi to control almost anything you can imagine, and is completely customizable with graphics, sounds, and setups. It took me several weeks to program it to my liking, but now even my wife and my 6 year old know how to use it to do what they want. Of course, if it could do web-surfing and had bluetooth, that would have been fantastic, but that may be in the next generation.

Inches? Try Feet

Description}: I love it when people tell me they just got a 42" TV. I just smile and ask "You measure your screen in inches?" I have a 10 FOOT diagonal, or for those of you who prefer inches, that's 120. Not only that, but I'll bet my projector cost less than half what the 42" plasma or LCD cost. Of course, I love my B&W Matrix 801's for both movies and music, and they are each bi-amplified, powered by 2 Onkyo M504's, using an Audio Control Richter Scale Series IIIas an active crossover. Effectively, each speaker has 1000 Watts peak power available, though I rarely run them over 5 watts peak.

CD Jukebox

Description}: If you have a large CD collection and are not familiar with Escient, you are not living life to the fullest. I now have all (or at least most) of my CD's loaded into 3 Sony M333ES 400 disc changers, where they are all instantly accessable by artist, album, genre, or song title, and play in full CD quality, not some MP3 perceptual coding scheme. I can display the cover art and more info on my monitor, create playlists, burn CD to CD copies, rip to MP3, and more.

Description}: Believe it or not, I actually spent a lot of time selecting positions for components to reduce the tangled mess of interconnects and to avoid running signal lines in conjunction with power lines. I know it looks like hell, but with all these components, there is bound to be some mess
