I am very happy with the results - we often crank the tunes while we are working outside, as well as any time we have a get-together. The speakers are wired up using Cat5e cable with a beige jacket, which is pleasantly color-matched to my house paint! Um... I've been told I have a small deck.

2 comments http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=4133&title=outdoor-zone2-speaker-setup&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=4133&title=outdoor-zone2-speaker-setup&cat=500 Sun, 06 Jul 2008 19:37:26 -0400 Equipment Rack Rough-In

by: whatthedileo

Description}: In order to keep equipment out-of-sight, I cut a hole in the crawl-space area under the media room. This offers easy access to the equipment, and keeps the associated wiring completely hidden (and there are LOTS of wires to hide). Ignore the ugly wire coming out of the window - it was only temporary. The large access panel next to the equipment rack allows me to crawl over to the furnace which is installed in the crawl space, or run more wires, if necessary. Obviously, the hand-railing poses a bit of an obstacle, but this was unavoidable due to the load-bearing supports which I could not work around, forcing the window to be in this somewhat compromised position. An awesome bonus, when we are watching more than one movie (such as an LOTR marathon), I can place one DVD case between each of the railing spindles above the rack. It is very convenient!

1 comment http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=4132&title=equipment-rack-rough-in&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=4132&title=equipment-rack-rough-in&cat=500 Sun, 06 Jul 2008 19:22:04 -0400 Mission accomplished... alternate view

by: whatthedileo

Description}: Another perspective of the seemingly finished project.

3 comments http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3804&title=mission-accomplished-alternate-view&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3804&title=mission-accomplished-alternate-view&cat=500 Thu, 13 Mar 2008 23:51:38 -0400 Mission accomplished... almost http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3803&title=mission-accomplished-almost&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3803&title=mission-accomplished-almost&cat=500 Thu, 13 Mar 2008 23:49:53 -0400 Playing the back Nine...

by: whatthedileo

Description}: Our old house had a much smaller media room, so we could only afford a 5.1 system in the space. Sealed and glued to the wall, and screwed to the floor, and carpet was laid AROUND the monstrocity. This was not fun to deal with. BTW: The speakers shown here are Sony powered towers, originally $1600 in 1994. I picked them up for $5 at a garage sale last year... the guy thought an amp was blown, but he was wrong. They work perfectly, and they allow me to get Dolby Pro-Logic from a secondary TV system without needing a separate amplifier or a mess of wires (the 'center' channel drivers are included in the towers, and you can adjust surround mode and tone directly from the speaker's front panel). We don't even need a separate remote, because our TV has variable level line out, so getting big speaker sound is completely transparent to the user - they turn TV volume up, and the tower volume rises. I am very pleased with this secondary system (basically I took everything you see here and put it in another room.

2 comments http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3799&title=welcome-to-the-90-s-hope-you-like-oak&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3799&title=welcome-to-the-90-s-hope-you-like-oak&cat=500 Thu, 13 Mar 2008 23:39:47 -0400 This image shows Dolby Reference Audio and THX Visual Reference http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3420&title=this-image-shows-dolby-reference-audio-and-thx-visual-reference&cat=500 http://gallery.audioreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=3420&title=this-image-shows-dolby-reference-audio-and-thx-visual-reference&cat=500 Fri, 07 Dec 2007 17:49:47 -0500 Next Project

by: whatthedileo

Description}: Lots of real estate available for this project - going full-out THX-Ultra2 7.2 speakers, perhaps with a 65" plasma if the prices come down enough by 2009. A computer with 470GB of disk space feeds an unlimited number of photos and music files between movies. I made the aluminum plasma frame myself, to match the speakers. The center channel is actually hung from the plasma mount, preventing one more set of holes in the wall!
