The home office setup

Description}: This is my home office. I spend quite a bit of time in here, so I figured I should get some decent sound. I went with active studio monitors instead of high end computer speakers. The Samson R6a use ribbon tweeters and sound pretty nice at moderate listening levels. Auralex MoPads (which have been placed on top of the foam blocks after this picture was taken) or similar decoupling material is pretty much a must when setting a monitor like this on a desktop.

TT and sub

Description}: I have my TT (pro-ject 1.2) and sub (pdr-10) stuck in the corner, certainly a WAF compromise, but it works ok for my use. The sub is certainly underpowered for the room, but I've never been a big sub guy anyway, and it's not like I can afford a Servo right now.

Front view of my setup

Description}: I just got the tv (hence, the reason I'm posting these photos). I'm pretty happy with it so far (my previous tv was a 20"). I had to get into the service menu to correctly calibrate the color (thanks to AVS Forums for that). I sort of consider my system a budget concious jack of all trades/master of none type system. My plan is to hold off on getting into really serious gear until I have a room worthy of putting it in, but that won't happen anytime really soon. The Studio 40s look great with the grills off, too bad I never listen to them this way.

Close up of my gear

Description}: Just a close up of my set up, nothing too special really, but it gets the job done. I have everything being switched through the reciever, so I only have to use one input on the tv. It's nice not to have to switch inputs (on the tv), but the lack of ability to calibrate the display of each input separately is a bit of a compromise.

My lovely room

Description}: This picture illustrates my awfull room. The picture was actually taken from the kitchen (notice frame on right side of photo). As you can see my couch setup is less than ideal, and my room is almost perfectly square (17'x18'). I end up moving furniture around if I really want to get into something. There is the WAF factor to deal with, but I'm open to suggestions... The panels are acoustic tiles covered with burlap. There are 8 panels in all on three walls. The forth wall is home to the fireplace, which I like to convince myself is a diffusor. The panels significantly reduce, but don't eliminate the flutter echo problem in my room. I don't even bother worrying about standing waves or eq, since I don't really have one clearly defined listening position.
